“Throughout our collaboration, Strangely Educational were communicative, responsive, and solution-oriented—always suggesting approaches that aligned with our budget and timelines. Their strong understanding of science communication was particularly valuable, helping us convey complex research in a clear and engaging way. Their collaborative style, technical expertise, and thoughtful approach made the process smooth and significantly less stressful. Their work has been a valuable asset to QUBIC, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Strangely Educational.”

Case study: impact campaigns

An example episode of the limited (7 episode) podcast series.

Embrace human-centred storytelling to build trust, start conversations, forge relationships and cultivate communities around the shared goal of societal transformation.

“The fact that they are reacting and reaching out to me is confirming that. For me, that’s mission accomplished.”
Professor Chamorro-Koc

Podcasts create an emotional connection with audiences. They foster engagement, strengthen identity and build a sense of community and belonging among stakeholders.

Strangely Educational co-created Voices in Design for Health: Insights from the frontlines with Professor Professor Marianella Chamorro-Koc and QUT Design Lab.

The podcast series successfully connected with its intended audience: the healthcare sector. Industry has engaged and expressed their aligned values and interest in the research.

The podcast and supporting video series has been instrumental in realising the first significant step towards research impact for Design Lab.

On a personal level, for Professor Chamorro-Koc the process has been invaluable: “the hype hasn’t worn off for me yet. I’m still in that moment, I’m very excited.”

Case study: social content

Episode 1 of Cinemanomics with Dr Ruari Elkington.

Making something cool doesn’t have to be expensive. All you needs is a good idea and the skills to execute it.

Dr Elkington reinforced existing relationships, made new connections, and started conversations.

The objective was to generate engagement on LinkedIn. To raise a researcher's profile and demonstrate their capacity to undertake industry focussed research.

To present Dr Ruari Elkington’s work, and that of the QUT Digital Media Research Centre, in a way that grabs attention. That keeps it. That resonates with its intended audience: prospective partners in the film and cinema industry.

The video posts were engaged with by the Vice President and Managing Director Australasia at Paramount Pictures, CEO at Dendy Cinemas, CEO at Palace Cinemas, President and CEO of Hoyts Group, Director of Industry Partnerships at National Film and Sound Archive, Director of Strategy and Marketing at Val Morgan, Director of the National Association of Cinema Operators, Content Director at Screen Queensland and Research Manager at British Film Institute (BFI).

Flagship initiative: Cinema Lab

This is not style over substance; but style over stifled.

Go beyond the conventions of dissemination and corporate communication.
Transcend expectations.

Cinema Lab positions knowledge dissemination in the Cinema not the Corporate.

It’s time to embrace a radical shift to innovative creative marketing and brand building for education, research and innovation groups and organisations.

Meld strategic storytelling with evidence-based marketing and brand building. Translate education, complex research, advanced technologies and innovation into compelling narratives with dynamic aesthetics.

This is an immersive approach to creative content. An ethos from which bold and purposeful marketing and communication content, strategies and initiatives can emerge.

Cinema Lab is the culmination of more than a decade of our professional experience, creative practice and evidence-based research.

Now seeking brave collaborators, to work intensively within dynamic environments towards the shared aim of impact.

The seed of Cinema Lab was planted a decade ago, producing the Master of Cybersecurity launch campaign in 2016 for La Trobe University.

Inside the Mind of a Hacker was an innovative seven part web series produced to extend the impact of the Master of Cybersecurity launch campaign.

Let’s do it!
